Tectonic Plates Overview
A long time ago, the world is thought to have been one, large landmass. They called this huge group of land Pangea. Over time, Pangea broke apart, forming several large, rigid plates. The Lithosphere, the outermost layer of the Earth is made up of these plates. Over time, these plates moved around, shifting the continents and creating what the Earth is today. These plates interact with one another creating many things such as mountains, volcanoes, earthquakes, and hot spots. Without these plates, the land that we know today would be completely different. There would be no mountains, earthquakes, volcanoes, and so much more would be missing from the world.
